A single act of honesty or generosity can drop defenses faster than a long argument. It signals confidence, and confidence feels safe.
Be selective. Offer a truth that costs little but buys credibility, or a gift that creates warmth without surrendering leverage. Once people feel safe, they stop scanning for traps and start offering access, information, and forgiveness.
Do not overuse it. Constant generosity looks like hunger for approval. The power of the tactic is contrast: one clean gesture that changes the temperature of the room.
A well-timed offering also creates psychological commitment. If someone accepted your good faith, doubting you later makes them feel foolish. They resist that feeling by defending you. Disarm first, then move.
